Peace. Well, let me start off my saying that I totally support Rev. Wright's sermon. Most people who judge it negatively either don't know anything about "black theology" or the greater concept of "liberation theology" that swept through Latin American nations with Vatican II although I feel that it was still a lingering effect of colonization and imperialism. The message seems correct however. If we are to talk about a "real" Jesus, we have to talk about a man who hated oppression, poverty, and bigotry and who pioneered social justice while condemning the hypocrisy of High ranking Jewish leaders and the Roman government who had their role in oppressing, isolating, and condemning the poor and those that didn't have prestige and privilege in the dominant Roman society. Forward to the dominant power of "American" society built on slavery, indigenous slaughter and oppression, and cheap labor from all countries. Mostly Anglo and Jewish elite control the economy with the help of politicians/leaders from marginalized communities, mostly Black and Latino, that have no interest in changing the social or power structure and the way "America" does business with it's Neoliberal policies pushing Reaganomics and/or Thatcherism to all points of the globe. Globalization is being pushed by classic Imperialism, only now, it has the mask of prosperity and progress. Is this prosperity and progress for all? Of course not and Rev. Wright is just pointing that out. Good for him and good for us that we still have people who will speak the truth in the face of adversity. When challenged, the real racists who have invented the concept and/or go along with the concept for control and social privilege, will be exposed for who they are. We must weed them out not only for the liberation of economically challenged populations, but for the liberation and conservation of the world and it's resources.
